Key Responsibilities (may vary by employer)
As an International Personal Support Worker, your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, and mobility.
- Supporting safe transfers and positioning using proper body mechanics and equipment (e.g., lifts, transfer belts).
- Helping clients with meals: feeding assistance, fluid intake, and monitoring dietary restrictions.
- Providing emotional support and companionship, respecting dignity, privacy, and cultural differences.
- Observing and reporting changes in clients’ physical or mental condition to the supervising nurse or team lead.
- Assisting with light housekeeping tasks related to client care (bed making, tidying, laundering personal items).
- Following infection prevention and control measures and safety protocols at all times.
- Maintaining accurate, timely documentation as required by the employer and regulatory standards.

Who Should Apply
This talent pool is intended for internationally trained caregivers / PSW-equivalent workers who:
- Have experience providing hands-on personal care to seniors, adults with disabilities, or patients in clinical/community settings.
- Have completed a PSW, caregiver, nursing assistant, or similar program outside Canada (formal or informal training may be considered depending on the employer).
- Are interested in working as a PSW or support worker in Canada and are open to different shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends) as required by employers.
- Are willing to work in environments that may include high physical and emotional demands (e.g., dementia care, palliative care, behavioural support).
Preferred Qualifications (may vary by employer)
- Certificate, diploma, or training as PSW, caregiver, nursing assistant, health care aide, or equivalent in your home country.
- Previous experience in:
- Long-term care, home care, or hospital support roles
- Geriatric care, dementia care, or disability support
- Basic understanding of English or French (spoken and written); language testing may be required by employers or immigration programs.
- Demonstrated compassion, patience, and reliability, with a strong client-focused attitude.
- Willingness to complete any bridging, orientation, or PSW equivalency programs required in the province where work is offered.
